Marquetry

Marquetry creates appealing visual compositions using the beauty of natural wood grains as the artist’s palette. The art of creating images or patterns by inlaying small pieces of solid wood, veneer or other materials, has a rich history that dates to ancient civilizations. Although the artist may use wood stains, there is no painting involved. A touch of pyrography may be added to accentuate finer details and create shadows. Marquetry is also used to decorate furniture and wood panels and remains a respected craft in modern furniture design and art, celebrated for its aesthetic appeal and precision. Bookings open in March.
