Feathers hold stories — What’s yours?
Across cultures and time, feathers carry powerful symbolic meaning, sometimes mythical, sometimes mystical and often they're enigmatic reminders of birds and their melodious calls connecting us to nature.
What do feathers mean to you?
Join us for this stained-glass workshop and craft your own feather-shaped suncatcher — create your meaning — tell your story.
What will you make?
A fiery red phoenix feather? A scorched feather reminding you of Icarus’ audacity? A shimmering angel’s feather? Or a magnificently colourful plume reminding you of a bird-of-paradise?
An octillion combinations
There are five patterns to choose from: each with seven or more pieces of glass and more than 280 glass colours and textures to choose from. That’s more than 108 octillion combinations — let your imagination run wild — the possibilities are nearly endless.
Experience
No prior experience required. We’ll take you through the process of pattern selection, glass choice, safely cutting and grinding your pieces, foiling, soldering and applying patina to finish your work. And we'll celebrate your handiwork with you.
If you already know the basics, you can choose to create a more complex feather — or we'll challenge you to try out some more advanced embellishments.

Please arrive a little early, settle in and help yourself to some refreshments. Late arrivals disrupt the rest of the class, and it may not be possible for the instructor to help you catch up.
We'll take a 30 minute lunch break — bring a packed lunch or support a local eatery. Visit our FAQs page to learn more about parking, our facilities, local restaurants and accommodations.
Health & Safety
Working with glass poses some risk. Learn more about safety in the glass studio. Please follow your facilitator's safety instructions and note that:
- To protect your feet, you must wear closed-toe shoes.
- We recommend wearing natural fibre clothing that cover your legs — denim/jeans will do perfectly.
- You are welcome to bring an apron or work jacket.
- Avoid loose clothing and tie back long hair to avoid entanglement when working with machines or hot equipment.
- Gloves and protective glasses are provided — you're welcome to bring your own.
