Foundational Techniques
Join sought after watercolour artist and international educator, Crystal Beshara, for an introduction to the unique allure of watercolour painting that captivates beginners and seasoned artists alike. This is an unique opportunity to learn from an artist who normally teaches more advanced classes in an intimate setting, with no more than 12 participants to ensure you get Crystal's personal attention.
What you’ll learn
Crystal will expertly teach you the foundational techniques that will stand you in good stead throughout your watercolour journey. You'll learn:
- Best practices for selecting brushes and paper
- Building your palette
- Mixing techniques
- How to work light-to-dark
- How to avoid blooms
- Creating graded washes
- Working wet-into-wet
- Dry-brush techniques
- Use masking, splattering, lifting, and glazing for varied effects.
Crystal will give detailed demonstrations of each technique, address specific questions and issues and take you through step-by-step exercises for hands-on learning, finishing off the day with a quick study (time permitting).
Experience required
This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners who’ll get to grip with the basics and create their first watercolour painting. The workshop is also suitable for novices and intermediate watercolourists wanting to develop and improve their understanding of watercolour and bolster their technique and fundamental skills.

About Crystal Beshara
Crystal is an international award-winning contemporary realist painter and sought-after educator. A self-taught realist, she spent her rural childhood observing and drawing the natural world around her. Crystal shifts easily between mediums — watercolour, gouache and oil — focusing on realism juxtaposed with expressive, gestural brushstrokes.
Her popular creative workshops are well structured and geared towards developing participant’s skills. Benefit from Crystal's more than 25 years’ teaching experience in this workshop.

Please arrive a little early, settle in and help yourself to some refreshments. Late arrivals disrupt the rest of the class, and it may not be possible for the instructor to help you catch up.
