Summer at the Cottage

Summer at the cottage is a quintessential Canadian experience, signifying an escape from everyday life to relax, play, reconnect with nature and bond with friends and family.

What does your dream cottage look like?

Let the light shine

With hundreds of colours and textures to choose from, you'll create a tealight-screen to dazzle, inspire and amaze.

What you'll learn

This workshop teaches the Tiffanny-method of creating with stained glass. We’ll take you through the process of pattern selection, glass choice, safely cutting and grinding your glass, foiling, soldering and applying patina and polish to finish your work. And we'll celebrate your handiwork with you.

Experience required

There are five patterns to choose from: Three for absolute beginners with no prior experience; and more challenging patterns for novices with some prior experience. Proficient stained glass artists are welcome to join in — we'll challenge you to try out some customisation and more advanced embellishments.

Included

  • Glass for practice cutting
  • Practice runs
  • Art glass — choose from hundreds of colours
  • Consumable materials
  • A choice of six patterns
  • Step-by-step demonstrations
  • Your masterpiece
  • Tealight
  • Stand
  • Refreshments served throughout the day
  • A-grade studio tools and equipment
  • A unique studio environment, in the company of century-old stone, hundreds of creative works and a creative community.

Health & Safety

Working with glass poses some risk. Learn more about safety in the glass studio. Please follow your facilitator's safety instructions and note that:

  • To protect your feet, you must wear closed-toe shoes.
  • We recommend wearing natural fibre clothing that cover your legs — denim/jeans will do perfectly.
  • You are welcome to bring an apron or work jacket.
  • Avoid loose clothing and tie back long hair to avoid entanglement when working with machines or hot equipment.
  • Gloves and protective glasses are provided — you're welcome to bring your own.

Good to know

Please arrive a little early, settle in, help yourself to some refreshments and browse the gallery. Late arrivals disrupt the rest of the class, and it may not be possible for the instructor to help you catch up.

Lunch

We'll take a 30-minute lunch break — bring a packed lunch or support a local eatery.
