As winter approaches: Explore the evergreen promise of renewal as pine needles whisper on the coldest days that the season will turn; embrace fir’s upward reach as a bearer of hope and symbol of endurance and celebrate cedar’s ancient role as shield and guardian.
Bring winter's greens to life
Bring winter's greens to life in this hands-on watercolour workshop surrounded by a great collection of artworks.
Suitable for
Suitable for beginners and accomplished watercolourists looking to refine their technique. Learn how to bring pine branches, berries, needles, and lush evergreen foliage to life with expressive brushwork and luminous washes.
What You’ll Learn
- Essential evergreen techniques — Create realistic pine needles, using various applications and techniques and harness the power of the fan brush.
- Festive berry clusters — Paint berries with depth and shine.
- Colour-mixing for winter tones — Achieve subtle, natural variations in greens, one of the most challenging colours to work with.
Final composition
You’ll complete a small, polished watercolour composition featuring a luscious evergreen forest, much like the one pictured here — perfect for reproducing as personalized Christmas cards, festive prints, or seasonal gifts.
What’s Included
- Step-by-step guided demonstrations
- Practice sheets for techniques
- Reference images of winter greenery
- Tips for scanning and reproducing your final painting for cards
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with new skills, a completed winter greens painting, and be inspired to create more seasonal work.
